Machine Vision Lighting Case Studies & Before/After Evidence

Use this page as the proof-first structure for LuxMV application cases. Each case should start with the imaging problem, show before/after evidence, document optical settings, and end with the constraints an engineer must confirm before copying the setup.

Case template

Reflective metal scratch inspection

Glare can hide shallow scratches or make background texture look like defects.

Before image

Poor contrast, glare, shadow, blur, or missed defect. Replace this slot with approved project evidence.

After image

Validated setup image with lighting geometry and capture parameters recorded.

Upload before/after images with camera, lens, FOV, WD, light geometry, wavelength, exposure, and controller mode.

Case template

Contour and silhouette inspection

Edges, holes, glass outlines, and dimensional boundaries need stable contrast across part position changes.

Before image

Poor contrast, glare, shadow, blur, or missed defect. Replace this slot with approved project evidence.

After image

Validated setup image with lighting geometry and capture parameters recorded.

Record backlight or collimated-light comparison images with fixture limits and required measurement tolerance.

Case template

Line-scan and moving-web inspection

Uniformity, heat, exposure time, line speed, and trigger timing often define whether an image is usable in production.

Before image

Poor contrast, glare, shadow, blur, or missed defect. Replace this slot with approved project evidence.

After image

Validated setup image with lighting geometry and capture parameters recorded.

Compare line-scan images by speed, exposure, current mode, duty cycle, and working distance before approving the light.

Publishing rule

Use evidence before making performance claims

  • Only publish customer names, industries, certifications, numerical improvements, accuracy, speed, or defect-size claims when current approved documents support them.
  • Keep failed tests and constraints in the record; they help engineers avoid copying a setup into the wrong material, FOV, WD, or speed condition.
  • For new cases, use the internal markdown template at docs/templates/luxmv-case-study-before-after-template.md.
FAQ

Case study evidence questions

What evidence should a machine vision lighting case study include?

A useful case study should show the inspection target, material, defect or feature, before and after images, camera and lens setup, field of view, working distance, lighting geometry, wavelength, controller mode, exposure, speed, and known limitations.

Can LuxMV publish a customer case without real proof?

No. Case pages should only claim results that are supported by project images, settings, drawings, or approved customer evidence. Unsupported claims should stay as test hypotheses or engineering notes.

How can an engineer use the evidence library for RFQ preparation?

Match the closest case pattern, then send the workpiece material, target feature, camera, lens, FOV, WD, speed, trigger mode, sample images, and constraints so the lighting path can be evaluated.
