What lighting geometry fits this inspection task?
Define the inspection field, part-height variation and lens position before choosing the emitting area and opening. Housing dimensions do not equal uniform illumination coverage. Changing distance also changes coverage and angle.
Check the centre, corners and boundaries using a representative sample, including permitted position variation. Record installation space, cooling clearance and service access. For large fields, compare bar combinations, area lights or separate views and judge contrast across the complete field.

Maintaining contrast across a large field?
Check illumination and camera shading across the entire field using a uniform target. Large sources and wider optics can introduce different angular and brightness conditions at the corners. Evaluate the smallest required feature at those positions.
Repeat with representative surface finishes and height variation. Keep raw images before correction to identify the physical cause of unevenness. Verify that any software compensation does not amplify noise enough to obscure defects.
